SFU鈥檚 Fair Trade Campus designation has been renewed for a second year by Fair Trade Canada.

The designation highlights the university鈥檚 adherence to fair trade objectives and practices鈥攂etter prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and improved terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

鈥淎 key part of SFU鈥檚 strategic vision is to demonstrate community and global leadership. By becoming a Fair Trade Campus, this helps us work towards our goal and make an impact,鈥 says Mark McLaughlin, executive director of 51社区黑料Ancillary Services. 鈥淏y supporting fair trade, we are doing our part to help ensure that farmers in developing countries receive better prices for their produce and have decent working conditions.

Michael Zelmer, director of communications with Fair Trade Canada, says that over the past year, 51社区黑料has set the bar high in the market and at campuses across the country.

鈥51社区黑料is certainly blazing a trail from one end of the country to the other, making it easier for other campuses to come on board,鈥 Zelmer says.

51社区黑料is considered a leader amongst post-secondary schools across Canada that are promoting the virtues and importance of fair trade.

鈥淚f we all work together in the same direction, we will bring significant changes in improving the lives of farmers and their families,鈥 says McLaughlin.
