Genomic Research Solves Major Challenge Facing BC’s Blueberry Industry

A Genome BC-funded collaboration between the BC Blueberry Council, 51社区黑料, and Phyto Diagnostics has uncovered why standard tests sometimes fail to detect viruses in sick blueberry plants.
Led by Dr. Jim Mattsson (SFU) and Dr. Eric Gerbrandt (BC Blueberry Council), the team used genomic sequencing to investigate puzzling false negatives in ELISA tests鈥攁n issue affecting up to 30% of samples. The findings will lead to better diagnostic tools to protect BC鈥檚 $236 million blueberry export industry.
