Common Course Substitutions

BISC Major and Honours students may count up to two non-BISC courses toward their upper-division major requirements. These substitutions may be applied to the following requirement groups: RG5533, R1138, LN 40 for the Cells, Molecules and Physiology Stream; RG5535, R1143, LN 50 for the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Stream; and RG5036, R484, LN 30 for the Open Stream.

The courses listed below have been pre-approved for substitution. Students should consult the course calendar to ensure that they meet the prerequisites and/or contact the course instructor to discuss possible prerequisite waivers.

Once a substitute course has been completed with a minimum grade of C-, students must notify the Academic Advisor (Emelia Kirkwood) so that their Academic Progress Report can be updated.

Students who wish to apply courses that are not on the pre-approved list must obtain approval from the Undergraduate Program Advisor before enrolling in the course.

Please note that a maximum of two non-BISC course substitutions may be applied toward the major requirements, regardless of whether the courses are pre-approved or individually approved.

Students who are completing a second program (e.g., an MBB Major or Minor) in addition to their BISC Major may not count the same course toward both programs.
