Dr. Samira Siahrostami Wins Prestigious William Lash Miller Award
The Department of Chemistry is proud to announce that Dr. Samira Siahrostami, Associate Professor and the Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Surface Electrocatalysis and Electrochemical Transformations, has been awarded the 2025 William Lash Miller Award by the Electrochemical Society Canada Section.
This award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in electrochemistry in Canada and honours outstanding contributions to electrochemical science and technology. Dr Siahrostami regards the award as a tremendous honour and would like to extend her thanks to the Electrochemical Society Canada Section for their consideration of her work. 鈥淭his award not only acknowledges the contributions of my group in advancing electrochemical science and technology but also motivates us to continue pushing boundaries in developing sustainable electrochemical systems.鈥
The Siahrostami research group bridges computational materials science and electrochemistry and work towards developing next-generation catalysts for fuel cells, electrolyzers, and carbon mitigation technologies. By leveraging quantum mechanical methods her group aims to gain insights into catalyst behavior and reaction mechanisms advancing the rational design of earth-abundant, high-performance electrocatalysts.
Her research contributions include seminal studies on the electrochemical conversion of small molecules such as O鈧, H鈧侽 and CO鈧, and NO鈧冣伝 into valuable chemicals like hydrogen, ammonia, and hydrocarbons. This has led to uncovering new mechanistic pathways and catalytic design strategies and establishing theoretical frameworks and descriptors that support the broader electrochemical community in designing more selective and efficient systems.
Looking ahead, Dr. Siahrostami is expanding her group鈥檚 focus to include collaborative experimental validation, constant-potential simulations, and realistic electrolyte modeling, with the goal of accelerating the discovery and deployment of catalysts in practical clean energy devices whilst committed to training the next generation of researchers in electrochemical science.
