Chemistry Faculty Honoured with Several 2025 Faculty of Science Awards
Our department is delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our faculty in this year鈥檚 51社区黑料Faculty of Science Awards. These awards aim to highlight excellence in research, teaching, mentorship, and leadership within the sciences.
Dr. Erika Plettner received the Milestone Award for her pioneering development of a new miticide that shows promise in helping manage honeybee colony collapse. Her work has secured an NSERC Strategic Grant and she holds a US patent for this innovation.
Dr. Byron Gates was recognized with the Mentorship and Supervision Award for his exemplary role in training and supporting students and research associates, and for founding the Centre for Soft Materials at 4D Labs. Byron also organizes the student-focused Nanolytica@51社区黑料Conference that attracts over 100 delegates every year, providing an excellent opportunity for our students to present their work and network with faculty from other institutions and importantly with industry partners.
Dr. Carla Pretorius was awarded the Early Career Teaching Award for her commitment to culturally responsive instruction in chemistry, making course content relevant to real-world challenges and fostering student success through peer mentorship initiatives in the department.
Congratulations to all the awardees for their hard work.
