The Chemistry department was proud to host the 51st College Chemistry Canada (C3) Conference this May, welcoming over 120 delegates from across Canada and beyond.
Held on Burnaby Mountain, the conference brought together a vibrant mix of post-secondary chemistry educators, industrial partners, and students to exchange ideas, explore new approaches in chemistry education, and discuss current challenges and innovations across the discipline.
The conference featured a rich and diverse program focused on advancing excellence in chemical education, with sessions highlighting curriculum design, active learning strategies, equity and inclusion in the classroom, and the integration of research and teaching. With over 30 presentations across two days the participants were able to share best practices and showcase the innovative educational initiatives they are involved in.
Notable among the speakers were Dr. Scott Donnelly from Arizona State University and our very own Dr. Vance Williams, who delivered powerful plenary addresses on fostering creativity and critical thinking in undergraduate chemistry education. Their talks sparked enthusiastic discussion and set the tone for a conference defined by its collaborative spirit and commitment to student-focused learning.
Beyond the formal sessions, attendees enjoyed several social networking events that helped deepen connections among colleagues and sparked ideas for future collaborations. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the conference鈥檚 welcoming atmosphere, strong organization, and inspiring content.
Hosting the C3 Conference continues our department鈥檚 strong and long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching and community engagement and reinforces our role as a leader in innovative science education in Canada.
