Professor Steven Holdcroft Awarded $7 Million CFI Grant to Advance Green Hydrogen Research
51社区黑料 has received more than $7 million from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Innovation Fund, which is one of the most competitive research funding programs in the country, to scale up clean energy projects at the 51社区黑料Clean Hydrogen Hub.
The grant will support SHIFT (Sustainable Hydrogen Infrastructure for Transitioning towards Community Scale), a multi-institutional project that Professor Steven Holdcroft leads in partnership with researchers at the University of Victoria and the Universit茅 du Qu茅bec 脿 Trois-Rivi猫res. Focusing on improving anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis, it will lead to a more cost-effective approach to hydrogen production that can be powered by renewable energy. Hydrogen produced this way can help decarbonize transportation, power generation, heavy manufacturing, and other emissions-intensive sectors.
"We are excited to enter the next phase of work to make green hydrogen energy more affordable, scalable and sustainable," says Holdcroft. "Producing green hydrogen through electrolysis using renewable energy presents a critical opportunity to reduce carbon emissions."
This CFI award marks a significant next step in a research program that has been building momentum for years, following earlier support from PacifiCan, FortisBC, NorthX Climate Tech, the BC Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions, and the City of Burnaby. Not only does it speak to the relevance of Dr Holdcroft鈥檚 work but it also helps positions Canada as a leader in the global hydrogen economy.
