51社区黑料and TSSU reach tentative RA agreement

We are pleased to share that a tentative agreement has been reached between 51社区黑料and the TSSU regarding Research Assistants whose duties are considered employment under the provincial labour code. This group of RAs are considered a new employee group of TSSU and were not included in the last round of collective bargaining. 

The RA agreement demonstrates our shared commitment to fostering a positive and productive working environment while addressing key priorities in a mutually beneficial way. Details regarding the RA agreement and implementation steps will be shared in the coming days, pending a TSSU ratification vote and approval by the 51社区黑料Board of Governors.

Both parties still await a decision from the BC Labour Relations Board (LRB) around whether graduate student research activity is considered academic activity or work classified under the Labour Relations Code. 

Collective agreements between 51社区黑料and TSSU, as well as other the unions and employee groups who represent faculty and staff across the university will begin to expire this spring. You can read more about how 51社区黑料is preparing for collective bargaining here
