July 25, 2022

The following message is sent on behalf of Jastej Aujla, Chief Information Security Officer.

Dear University Faculty and Staff Members:

Please provide your input on the proposed revised Acceptable Use and Security of Digital Information and Electronic Systems Policy ().

51社区黑料 (鈥淪FU鈥) is committed to protecting the Digital Information and Electronic Systems that are critical to teaching, research, business operations, and other University activities and that are critical to the communities we support. This policy establishes standards and guidelines to:

  • secure the personal identifiable digital information that our electronic systems contain;
  • maintain the integrity of those electronic systems, and
  • safeguard the financial assets of the University.

Access to, and use of, SFU鈥檚 Digital Information and Electronic Systems will be granted using Role-Based Access (鈥淩BA鈥) principles. This enables Users to access SFU鈥檚 Digital Information and Electronic Systems only as required for their role at the University, and only at the level required to perform their role. Everyone who accesses or uses SFU鈥檚 Digital Information and Electronic Systems must do so ethically, responsibly, lawfully, and in a manner consistent with the Procedures, Standards, Guidelines, Controls, and Processes associated with this Policy. This policy was first rolled out on March 23rd, 1993 and last revision was done in January 29th, 2002.

This draft Policy and associated documents have been shared with SFU鈥檚 Indigenous leadership, Sustainability leadership, Labour relations leadership and Unions, Faculty relations leadership, Equity Diversity and Inclusion leadership for their recommendations on ways for policy developers and approvers to also consider the implications of revised/updated policy for members of SFU鈥檚 Community.

Your feedback is most welcome as we advance toward revising and updating the Policy.  The 51社区黑料community is asked to review the draft policy and related documents and submit feedback to Jastej Aujla at itsgp24@sfu.ca by Friday, August 19, 2022.

Input you provide is collected under the authority of the University Act and 51社区黑料Policy on University Policies and Procedures (B10.00). This information is collected for the purpose of engaging in community consultation, which may result in recommended changes to a policy.  If you have any questions about the collection of this information, please contact email itsgp24@sfu.ca.
