Celebrating Innovation and Discovery at CS Research Day 2025

November 14, 2025

On October 30, 2025, the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏComputing Science community came together for CS Research Day 2025, a day that showcased the depth, innovation, and real-world impact of computing research at SFU.

The event took place at the Leslie & Gordon Diamond Family Auditorium, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and industry partners to exchange ideas, explore emerging research directions, and celebrate innovation. The Dean of the Faculty Applied Sciences Eugene Fiume and CS School Director Oliver Schulte, gave the opening remarks highlighting how computing research continues to shape our world in meaningful ways.

The event featured a special welcome video from the , Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies of British Columbia, whose reflections on the future of AI and its influence on the economy set an excellent tone for the day. His message emphasized the vital role researchers and innovators play in advancing technology for the benefit of society.

Through a series of invited talks, lightning sessions, and a panel discussion, participants explored cutting-edge topics in artificial intelligence, data systems, visualization, and software design. The sessions sparked engaging conversations that connected academic research to real-world applications reinforcing the SFU's leadership in science for greater good.

Our undergraduate and graduate students presented their innovative research projects and demonstrated how curiosity and collaboration fuel discovery during the poster session. Their work reflected the possibilities of computing science and its impact on shaping the future.
