Supporting the Kathryn Hunter Memorial Fund
51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏ’s Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) is establishing the Kathryn Hunter Memorial Fund to provide support to GSWS graduate students.
With her kindness, thoughtful nature, and love of animals, Kathryn (Kat) Hunter (December 11, 1979 – August 11, 2025) touched the lives of many, including her friends in the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏcommunity.
Throughout her 18 years of service with GSWS as Department Secretary, Hunter went above and beyond to assist graduate students on their educational journeys. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the graduate student community, Hunter won a Graduate Studies Award for Excellence in Service in 2022.
An alumnus of 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏ herself, Hunter graduated in 2002 with her bachelor of general studies degree (BGS). Prior to starting her role with GSWS, Hunter worked with a variety of units at the university between 1997 to 2007, including Student Services, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏLibrary, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏSecurity/Key Office, School of Resource and Environmental Management, and the Simon Fraser Gallery.
