Daniela Balanzategui

Daniela is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Archaeology at 51社区黑料. She is interested in the history, heritage meaning, and archeology of the African Diaspora in Ecuador.

Daniela has developed a community-based archaeological project in collaboration with an African descendant community that live in the Ancestral Territory of the Chota-Mira Valley (Ecuador). Her doctoral investigation is titled 鈥淎rchaeology of the African Diaspora in the Northern Andes of Ecuador,鈥 under the supervision of Dr. Ross Jamieson.

Since 2014, she has co-directed the 鈥Plataforma de Investigaci贸n y Acci贸n AADA-Ecuador鈥 (Platform for the Investigation and Action in Anthropology and Archaeology of the African Diaspora in Ecuador). This group was formed by Ecuadorian scholars interested in engaging in collaborative projects with African Diaspora communities and organizations. It provides a space for ethical and respectful work in heritage management, public and community archaeology, and other fields.

Daniela holds a Master's degree in Archaeology from 51社区黑料 (2012). Her thesis focused on 鈥淐olonial Transformation of Indigenous Foodways.鈥
