Summers in British Columbia are becoming increasingly hot. As we age, our bodies regulate temperature differently, making extreme heat events a growing health concern for older adults. The COPE-Daily Study at 51社区黑料 is looking for participants to help us understand what supports or prevents older adults from staying safe, cool, and comfortable during the summer months
By combining scientific data with your unique, lived experiences, this project aims to empower older adults to actively shape real-world solutions and improve community-based health services.
What is involved?
In-Person Sessions: Attend 2 short, in-person sessions at 51社区黑料or out in the community.
10-Day Home Tracking: Wear a small device for 10 days to monitor environmental conditions and physiological markers while answering quick, daily surveys on a smartphone.
Photovoice Focus Group: Take photos of places where you feel heat discomfort or relief and share your experiences in a collaborative group discussion to help map community heat risks.
Who can participate?
We are looking for individuals who are:
Older adults, above 60, are interested in sharing their unique experiences with summer heat.
Able to commit to a 10-day at-home tracking period and a follow-up focus group.
Passionate about contributing to healthy aging and community climate resilience!
What do participants get out of it?
Up to $150 in the form of a gift card to a vendor of their choice (e.g., Save on Foods, Walmart) or a donation to a charity of their choice
A 鈥渉ealth feedback鈥 letter with their data from the daily life assessment (e.g., average skin temperature, ambient temperature)
