Synopsis

In this talk I will describe our recent theoretical work on levitated optomechanics with optically trapped nanoparticles [1,2,3]. I will address cooling as well as regenerative motion ('phonon laser') of center-of-mass nanoparticle oscillations with reference to the experiments of our collaborators at the University of Rochester. Some of this work has recently been highlighted in Optics and Photonics News.
