51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏThrive Week supports health and well-being on campus and beyond
51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏ is committed to creating healthy campus communities where our students, faculty, staff and visitors feel welcome, supported and can thrive.
This week, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏcelebrates Thrive Week – a series of events focused on taking action to create positive well-being at 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏand beyond. Thrive Week seeks to promote through Social connection, Physical health, Awareness, Contribution, and Emotional health.
The 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏcommunity is invited to join events at our Burnaby and Surrey campuses, such as:
- A Conversation on (Burnaby and Surrey), January 30;
- Mindfulness Meditation (Burnaby), January 30;
- A gratitude craft with Creative Collective (Burnaby), January 31; and
- Gentle yoga (Burnaby), February 1.
There are also several drop-in workshops for students, including a Community Cooking Workshop (RSVP required), , and . Information about the variety of resources available through 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏHealth & Counselling will be shared at all events and can be found online at: sfu.ca/students/health.
A recent example of these resources is the My SSP app launched last year by 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏand the Simon Fraser Student Society. With My SSP, all 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏstudents have access to immediate or ongoing counselling and support - accessible from anywhere in the world by phone or through the downloadable app.
The initiative led by the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏHealth Promotion team is another great example of the efforts being taken by the University to promote supportive campus and learning environments. Launched in 2014, this award-winning initiative looks at the many factors that contribute to well-being on campus. Their recommendations have jump-started a number of projects that have improved both physical spaces andlearning environments.
As Canada’s engaged university, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏis proud to be a part of the movement to highlight the importance of health and well-being within our own institution and the communities we serve.
I encourage you to be a part of the conversation during Thrive Week and throughout the year. For more information, please visit the web resources shown below.
