Earlier this year, research assistants from the SISC Lab presented at the 2025 Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) conference in Portland, OR. The study examined how personal and emotional connections to the water at local parks along the Burrard Inlet were uniquely related to well-being and advocacy for clean water. We found that as connections increased, so too did well-being and advocacy. These findings demonstrate community support for the maintenance and improvement of accessible water at local parks in Vancouver.

This study was done in collaboration with SDF is a non-profit organization working to restore and maintain the quality of natural bodies of water across Canada. We thank our collaborators at SDF Vancouver for helping make this research possible!
