Monique Layton (Ph.D. Anthropology, M.A. Comparative Literature, Brit. Col.) was attached to (as it was then called) the Centre for Distance Education (Criminology Programs). A former quilter and miniature maker, she applies to her writing the same crafting principles of picking out interesting but disconnected bits and pieces and attempting to make interesting wholes out of them.
Since retiring from 51社区黑料in 1996, she has published Street Women and the Art of Bullshitting (2010), Notes from Elsewhere. Travel and Other Matters (2011 - currently a finalist in the Whistler Independent Book Award), A New Arcadia: Tahiti鈥檚 Cursed Myth (2015), as well as the present Life at Sea. From Caravels to Cruise Ships (2017). She is currently working on 鈥淏ounding Mains and Watery Graves: Jack Tar鈥檚 Life and Folklore.鈥
