Kevin Oldknow appointed as Principal, Surrey Campus and Senior Advisor to the Provost
This message is sent on behalf of Dilson Rassier, provost and vice-president academic and chief budget officer, to all faculty and staff at 51社区黑料.
I am pleased to share that Kevin Oldknow has been appointed the principal, Surrey campus and senior advisor to the provost, effective September 1, 2026, for a three-year term.
This is an exciting time for the Surrey campus as we prepare to welcome our first School of Medicine cohort in August and break ground on a new building, while the campus continues to advance its reputation for technological advancement, health innovation and interdisciplinary education. This new role is intended to build on the campus鈥檚 strengths while putting a more academically integrated leadership structure into place and contributes to ongoing efforts to advance the Academic Plan through a strong and integrated three-campus model.
In this role, Dr. Oldknow will lead academic visioning and planning for the Surrey campus and provide strategic operational leadership, aligned with What鈥檚 Next: The 51社区黑料Strategy and the Academic Plan. He will work with deans, chairs, Surrey-based academic units and administration to ensure cohesive academic programming and an excellent student experience, strengthen a culture of research and innovation and further advance community programming and partnerships with community, industry and faculties.
Dr. Oldknow has been a dedicated member of the Surrey campus community since he joined 51社区黑料in 2012. He formerly served as the senior advisor to the provost on academic planning, as associate dean undergraduate studies for the Faculty of Applied Sciences, as inaugural director of the School of Sustainable Energy Engineering and is serving as acting dean for the Faculty of Applied Sciences from March to August 2026. During his time at SFU, he has demonstrated skill in strategic planning, relationship-building and collaboration, as well as dedication to SFU鈥檚 academic and research mission. I am confident that he will provide excellent leadership and direction for the Surrey campus moving forward.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Oldknow on his appointment.
Sincerely,
Dilson Rassier
