Your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏAlumni Council: representing 200,000+ diverse voices
The 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏAlumni Council was established to represent SFU’s Alumni Association and you—our 200,000+ alumni who are making a difference in communities in British Columbia and around the world.
The Council supports the university by infusing the alumni perspective into SFU’s key priorities, ensuring alumni play a key role in shaping a vibrant future for 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏand our students.
Connecting and supporting 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏalumni
The Council:
- Provides strategic advice to the University
- Represents the Alumni Association on University committees
- Nominates members to the Board of Governors and the University Chancellor
- Celebrates alumni achievements
- Acts as a community representative for the University.
As influential and valued members of the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏcommunity, Council members work alongside senior leadership, the Board of Governors and various institutional partners as needed. The Council’s purpose is to seek the advantages of its members’ advice, influence and support with a diverse cross-section of regional, national and international alumni.
Seeking new members
51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏvalues the impact our alumni have on the university, their communities and around the globe. The Council, which is guided by Terms of Reference, is committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, respecting diverse passions, strengths and contributions.
Each of our Council members brings their unique professional and lived experiences—and strong governance expertise— to serve in this dynamic volunteer role.
In the coming months, alumni will be invited to self nominate for consideration . As many as 12 members of SFU’s Alumni Association serve in any given year and we will seek nominations annually as positions are available. Council members serve for two-year terms, with possible reappointment for up to an additional three-year term, not exceeding six consecutive years.
We also invite alumni to nominate fellow 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏgraduates with governance experience and expertise in: law, cyber security or finance to be considered for
