51社区黑料graduate earns a McCall MacBain Regional Award
51社区黑料 graduate Caitlyn Waterhouse (BA'24) has earned a McCall MacBain Regional Award.
This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. It provides funding for a full-time master鈥檚 or professional program at any public university in Canada.
Originally from Naicam, Saskatchewan, Caitlyn recently graduated from 51社区黑料with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and English Literature. She wrote her honours thesis on pathways toward industrial decarbonization and, as an assistant policy analyst for the BC Climate Action Secretariat, researched provincial emissions reduction efforts.
Growing up in a small community reinforced Caitlyn's awareness of the importance of belonging. Through SFU's Connect Through Homework program, she helped lead a team of student volunteers running after-school activities for youth. Caitlyn also volunteered as a supervisor for the English Language Support program. She led weekly sessions, created curriculum content, and guided student volunteers mentoring refugee youth.
Caitlyn ranked among the top 93 of more than 700 Canadian applicants this year, and she will receive a $5,000 Regional Award for her next degree. She is applying for law school.
The McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark $200 million gift in 2019, then the largest single donation in Canadian history, by John and Marcy McCall MacBain.
Applications will open in June 2025 for the 2026 cohort. More information about the McCall MacBain Scholarships can be found at .
