Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at SFU: March 2026 in Review

April 02, 2026

Together with campus partners, the Equity Office is strengthening equity and inclusion across our community of students, faculty and staff. Explore highlights of the progress made in March.

Strengthening dialogue and collaboration on equity work at SFU

On March 12, the Equity Office, in partnership with the Wosk Centre for Dialogue, convened the Equity Forum, an initiative designed to create a direct dialogue between the Senior Leadership Team and members of the EDI Community of Practice (CoPr). Through a story-harvesting process, EDI CoPr members shared insights, challenges, and lessons across diverse EDI structures within the university. Following the forum, CoPr members reconvened for community-building activities, strengthening connections and fostering continued collaboration across units.

51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏadvances planning to host CADPHHE national conference

On October 15–16, 2026, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏwill host the annual conference of the Canadian Association for the Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment in Higher Education (CAPDHHE). Centered on Inclusive Excellence and Well-being in Post-Secondary Education, the conference is designed for human rights and equity professionals, student affairs and HR teams, researchers, faculty and staff leaders, investigators, and administrators. The conference will offer space to share promising practices and strengthen sector-wide collaboration.  Behind the scenes, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏteams are working closely with the CAPDHHE secretariat to design an inclusive and impactful experience that reflects the university’s ongoing leadership in this area.

The conference will also be accompanied by a pre-conference event on October 14, 2026, for senior leaders. This event will bring together leaders from across the post-secondary sector to advance work on human rights, respectful campuses, and equity-informed practices.

Community members are encouraged to mark these dates, share this opportunity with colleagues and networks and watch for upcoming announcements on registration, programming and ways to participate. For more details on the conference, visit the CAPDHHE website .
