Deadlines
For external graduate scholarship applications, there are often internal 51社区黑料deadlines that occur prior to the deadline listed on the funder鈥檚 website. Please ensure that you consult the Awards + Funding webpage, which is managed by the Office of Graduate Studies. The Office of Graduate Studies is responsible for setting and facilitating all internal 51社区黑料deadlines for external graduate scholarships.
For questions, please reach out to the Administrative Assistant, Scholarships (edgpadmin@sfu.ca) internal to the Faculty of Education as your first point of contact. If needed, your next point of contact is the Awards + Funding Team (gradawards@sfu.ca) in the central Office of Graduate Studies.

Support & Resources for Applying
- Your Supervisor
- Your supervisor is an expert in your field as well as with research project conception and articulation. In their role as your supervisor, they are expected to support your scholarship applications. They should act as your #1 advisor for developing your research proposal and providing feedback on your draft(s).
- Tip: consult with them as early as possible about their capacity, availability, and preferred process, as well as your needs and the deadline

IDEAS Podcast
is a series of podcasts created by and for graduate students as a platform to showcase their research practices. features graduate students from diverse disciplines at different points in their research, sharing their challenges, accomplishments, and experiences. Episode 63 (Preview): Decolonizing Vocational Education: A Journey from Practice to Policy
In this insightful interview, Sabrina Ngo, a doctoral candidate in the Educational Theory and Practice Curriculum and Pedagogy stream at 51社区黑料, shares her unique journey into academia, highlighting her non-traditional path from vocational work to pursuing a PhD in educational theory and practice. She discusses the critical role of decolonization in vocational education, emphasizing the historical connections between vocational training and settler colonialism. Sabrina鈥檚 recent article, 鈥淭he Social Role of Vocational Education in Decolonisation,鈥 published in the Journal of Vocational Education and Training, delves into the institutional barriers that hinder decolonizing practices and offers actionable strategies for educators, administrators, and industry leaders. She underscores the importance of addressing systemic racism, classism, and gender-related oppressions within educational institutions. The interview also touches on the resistance faced by educators attempting to decolonize their practices and provides recommendations for fostering a more inclusive and equitable educational environment. Sabrina鈥檚 work is a call to action for the broader academic community to engage in meaningful decolonization efforts, ensuring that vocational education serves as a tool for social justice and empowerment.

Speaker Bio
Sabrina Ngo is a doctoral candidate in the Educational Theory and Practice Curriculum and Pedagogy stream at 51社区黑料. Sabrina has been an instructor and curriculum developer in the legal programs within Continuing Education at the University of the Fraser Valley since 2013. During this time, she has also developed, and co-facilitated workshops related to addressing settler-colonialism as a structure within continuing education and participated as a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group. Sabrina鈥檚 research interests include the exploration of decolonizing practices within vocational/continuing education programming in post-secondary institutions. Prior to entering the education field, Sabrina worked within the legal industry as a paralegal in both private and public sector organizations.
