Gravity and Quantum Mechanics/Gravitation et la Mécanique Quantique

Synopsis
We take the audience on a tour of some aspects of gravitational physics and quantum mechanics, from very real, experimentally accessible situations to rather speculative and fantastical astrophysical applications. We start with classical gravitation interacting with a quantum mechanical system and transition to quantum gravity interacting with quantum systems. The theory of quantum gravity is not yet considered complete; however, an effective theory of quantum gravity has been well- understood since the 1970s. We address the question of whether the graviton, the putative quantum of the gravitational field, would in fact be observable.
Fran莽ais: Cette pr茅sentation propose une exploration de divers aspects de la physique gravitationnelle et de la m茅canique quantique, allant de situations concr猫tes et accessibles exp茅rimentalement 脿 des applications astrophysiques plus sp茅culatives et parfois 茅tonnantes. Nous d茅buterons par l鈥櫭﹖ude de la gravitation classique interagissant avec un syst猫me quantique, avant d鈥檃border la gravit茅 quantique en interaction avec des syst猫mes quantiques. Bien que la th茅orie compl猫te de la gravit茅 quantique ne soit pas encore 茅tablie, une th茅orie effective de celle-ci est bien ma卯tris茅e depuis les ann茅es 1970. Nous examinerons notamment la question de l鈥檕bservabilit茅 du graviton, quantum hypoth茅tique du champ gravitationnel.
