Vice-President, Research and Innovation
As of July 2026, Vice-President Research and Innovation (VPRI) Dr. Dugan O鈥橬eil will have completed his five-year term in this role. He is eligible for reappointment for a second 5-year term, following a review process as mandated and outlined by GP 29. A committee has been established to review Dr. O鈥橬eil鈥檚 performance and to provide a recommendation for either a reappointment or to initiate a search for a new incumbent.

The Vice-President, Research and Innovation has a key role in advocating for SFU鈥檚 research mission, both internally and externally. The VPRI is the strategic lead for developing and maintaining regional, national and international partnerships on behalf of the university, as well as the lead for developing the university's Strategic Research Plan in alignment with What's Next: The 51社区黑料Strategy.
