Sheena Chahil
Honours Student
Sheena's honours project will examine the influence of autonomy supportive parenting on children鈥檚 moral development. Specifically, she will be looking at how autonomy supportive behaviours and linguistic content during parent-child conversations about moral actions influences children鈥檚 moral identity. Sheena believes morality is an essential pillar of development, and that recognizing its developmental origins is critical for understanding how parents can support children鈥檚 morality identity development through their parenting practices.

Jacob Angeles
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Jacob is a fifth-year undergraduate student in the Psychology Honours program at 51社区黑料. His areas of research interest include early gesture and social development, prosocial behaviour and developmental disabilities. He works as a supervisor at the Canucks Autism Network and he volunteers at the Surrey Hospice Society. He hopes to complete graduate training in clinical psychology and use his experiences to support children and adolescents in his community. Outside of academia, he enjoys reading, music and hanging out with friends.
Nimra Askari
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Nimra is an undergraduate student at 51社区黑料, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests broadly include moral development, spirituality, cultural and forensic psychology and ACEs. Alongside her education, Nimra has worked as a Youth Peer Support Worker with Fraser Health and currently is a Peer Support Counsellor for the Naseeha Mental Health Helpline. Outside of school, she enjoys writing poetry, painting, exploring cafes and going on hikes.
Amy Cowan
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Amy is an undergraduate student at 51社区黑料, completing a major in Psychology and a minor in Counselling and Human Development. She plans to pursue graduate training in developmental psychology or clinical counselling. Outside of school, Amy assists with running a children's camp in the summer, enjoys spending her downtime hanging out with friends, and loves to read.
Anna Draper
Lab Co-Manager
Anna is completing a major in Health Science and a minor in Learning and Developmental Disabilities, and plans to pursue a master鈥檚 in Occupational Therapy to work with children to promote independence and learning through play. Outside of academics Anna has worked in pediatric rheumatology research, run a recreational group program for youth with Down syndrome, volunteers with adults with disabilities, and loves to try as many hobbies as possible, with her favorites being hiking, knitting, swimming, and learning to play the banjo!
Julien Felbur
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Julien is an undergraduate at 51社区黑料, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. His research interests include, but are not limited to, moral development, personality, empathy, and attachment theory. He plans to pursue graduate training in developmental psychology and further contribute to research. Outside the lab, Julien works as a ski instructor and kayaking camp leader for children. Rain or shine, he enjoys spending time outdoors, with favorite pastimes including hiking, strength training, reading, and discovering hidden-gem caf茅s.
Evgeniia Gergenova
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Evgeniia is a fifth-year Psychology student and is pursuing a minor in Counselling and Human Development. She is currently completing her co-op as a Student Engagement Intern in the Psychology Department. Previously, she completed an eight-month co-op as a Development Assistant at Union Gospel Mission and volunteered at the Intergroup Relations and Social Justice Lab. Her research interests include moral development, culture and cognition, and attachment theory. In the future, she hopes to pursue a Master鈥檚 degree in Counselling.
Anahita Golab Lee
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Anahita is an undergraduate student pursuing a major in Psychology and a minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests include prosocial behaviour, cultural psychology, emotion regulation, self-compassion, and developmental psychopathology. Anahita plans to pursue graduate training in clinical or developmental psychology in the future. Outside of academia, she enjoys reading, playing musical instruments, and exploring caf茅s and restaurants.
Sahba Kashiha
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Sahba is completing her second BA, majoring in Psychology with a focus on developmental and clinical psychology. Her research interests include family dynamics, parenting, social and emotional development, and how children cultivate empathy, positive emotions, and resilience. In the future, she hopes to continue her research and graduate training in clinical psychology, with the goal of contributing to both research and practice that support children and families. Outside the lab, she enjoys long-distance running, nature walks, and spending time with her family and friends.
Monika Leeder
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Monika is completing her second BA, majoring in Psychology. Her research interests include social-emotional and moral development, human agency and its development, and issues of belongingness. In the future, she hopes to utilize her knowledge by helping parents understand their children better (via research and/or practice). Outside the lab, she's a mom to a high-spirited 11-year-old and a volunteer with Sources, serving low-income seniors in her community.
Angel Leung
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Angel is an undergraduate student at 51社区黑料completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests broadly include prosocial behaviour, moral development, and cultural psychology. She's particularly interested in learning more about how moral pride is expressed and socialized across different cultural contexts and family dynamics, as well as if and how this moral emotion can be beneficial to foster stronger community connections. As for her future goals, she hopes to pursue a career where she can continue to provide support and guidance for post-secondary students of all levels. Outside of the lab, she likes to hang out with her friends and cook whatever her heart desires!
Emily Norman
Lab Co-Manager
Emily is in her first year of the Professional Development Program, pursuing a second bachelor's degree in Education. Her research interests include prosocial behaviour, resilience and learning disabilities. After graduating from the Professional Development Program, Emily plans to become a social studies and English Secondary School teacher with the hopes of teaching Psychology courses. Outside of the lab she loves, dance, photography, spending time with family and working as a Program Leader, where she leads summer camps, as well as various dance and after school programs for children.
Gurleen Parmar
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Gurleen is completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. Her research interests focus on children's social-emotional development, attachment theory, parenting practices, and the development of compassion and empathy. Outside of academia, Gurleen has been working as a Behavioral Interventionist at Family Centered Practices Group. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing board games, and exploring new trails with her dog!
Aleena Rahim
Undergraduate Media Manager
Aleena is in her second year of undergrad, majoring in communications. She is interested in how social media shapes people views and perspectives, especially towards a brand and their image. She is interested in Marketing and Journalism as potential career paths. Aleena is originally from Kenya and enjoys watching movies, travelling and exploring new places to have a good meal.
