This project will study the applicability of disciplinary 鈥渘onlocal鈥� (i.e., teachers鈥� knowledge that is not directly connected to what is being taught) mathematical knowledge of teachers and teacher educators in instructional situations and investigate the implements of a narrative inquiry method in mathematics education.

Advancing Argumentation and Critical Thinking: Research Syntheses of Argument Visualization Pedagogy and Technology

AI in Mental Health: Empowering autistic youth with decreased sound tolerance

Kids Brain Health Network-funded researchers at SFU, Dr. Elina Birmingham and Dr. Siamak Arzanpour, are developing an AI-powered app to help autistic youth with DST manage distressing sounds. The app selectively filters noise in real time, enhancing comfort while maintaining environmental awareness.

This study explores student teachers鈥� experiences within an ungraded semester of a teacher education program, examining personal, contextual, social, sociological, and pedagogical aspects of knowledge development for social justice education through a cohort-wide survey and in-depth interviews of student teachers enrolled in SFU鈥檚 Professional Development Program.

Indigenous Sovereignty in Elementary Curricula: Returning to First Nations Journey of Justice

This project is updating 鈥淭he First Nations Journeys of Justice鈥� curriculum documents created in 1994 by Jo-ann Archibald, Q鈥檜m Q鈥檜m Xiiem, for K-7 education by aligning it with the current BC provincial curriculum to reflect landmark justice cases in Canada that have impacted Indigenous sovereignty from 1994 to 2022.
