Beyond academics, the mentorship and peer learning within the program had a profound influence on their journey. "I was fortunate to receive guidance throughout the program from an amazing mentor and thesis supervisor, Dr. Sharalyn Jordan," they share. 鈥淎s part of a cohort, my peers and I also helped support each other in our development as counsellors.鈥 This collaborative environment shaped their professional skills and fostered a sense of belonging that now informs their work with students.

From Student to Counsellor

Reflecting on their journey, Alex emphasizes how their background in the Faculty of Education shaped their approach to counselling. "The work I do merges many of my interests: 2SLGBTQIA+-affirmative counselling, connecting with 2SLGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals and communities, and learning about the nuances of human experience."

For Alex, counselling is more than a career鈥攊t鈥檚 a way to give back to their communities and make a meaningful difference. Their journey highlights the transformative potential of education and the powerful impact of aligning passion with purpose.
