60 Years of Education Leadership: Past, Present, Future
On November 6, 2025, we welcomed our community to the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏBurnaby campus for the Faculty of Education Open House. The event offered a meaningful moment to reflect on our 60 years of legacy, showcase the innovative work shaping our Faculty and highlight emerging opportunities in research, scholarship, and community collaboration. It was a pleasure to gather with colleagues, partners, and future educators as we looked ahead to the next chapter of impact in Education. We were particularly pleased to welcome the whole class of EDUC 230: Introduction to Philosophy of Education.
We were delighted to spotlight several areas of work that align closely with our Academic and Strategic Research Plans. These included the ’s initiatives to advance community-engaged research and expand student participation; innovative developments in teacher education emerging from the new Centre for Research and Practice in Teacher Education and its collaborative, inquiry-driven approach; and ongoing child development research led by the Family Foundations Lab and the , with opportunities for community involvement through SFU’s Child Research Group. We also highlighted the Office of International Education’s global partnerships and customized programs delivered worldwide, celebrated Friends of Simon for receiving the 2025 Literacy Award, and welcomed the inaugural cohort of the SFU-Cmolik Grant Program, which supports K–12 STEAM initiatives.
