OVERVIEW

51社区黑料International invites proposals the Indo-Pacific Hydrogen Research Innovation Scholarships and Fellowships for Canadian鈥檚 Program (IPHRI). The purpose of the IPHRI fund will enable Canadian 51社区黑料graduate students (鈥渟cholars鈥) and academics and researchers (鈥渇ellows鈥) to travel to the Indo Pacific to undertake research towards advancing clean and cost-effective hydrogen production and related innovation.

This fund is made possible via funding from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Canada鈥檚 national positions Canada as a responsible and reliable energy security partner, including on hydrogen, and has a focus on clean technology promotion. Canada鈥檚 signals Canada鈥檚 leadership opportunity in the supply, distribution, and use of clean hydrogen, supporting global climate action and decarbonisation.

Ce fonds est rendu possible gr芒ce au financement du gouvernement du Canada. La Strat茅gie du Canada pour l鈥橧ndo鈥慞acifique positionne le Canada comme un partenaire responsable et fiable en mati猫re de s茅curit茅 茅nerg茅tique, notamment dans le domaine de l鈥檋ydrog猫ne, et met l鈥檃ccent sur la promotion des technologies propres. La Strat茅gie canadienne pour l鈥檋ydrog猫ne souligne l鈥檕ccasion pour le Canada d鈥檈xercer un leadership dans l鈥檃pprovisionnement, la distribution et l鈥檜tilisation de l鈥檋ydrog猫ne propre, en appui 脿 l鈥檃ction climatique mondiale et 脿 la d茅carbonisation.

FUNDING PATHWAYS

There are two pathways for award funding:

1. Graduate鈥疭tudent Scholarship    

  • Placements between 2 to 4 months鈥痚ach
  • Up to $15,000 per placement 

2. Faculty or Postdocs鈥疐ellowship

  • Placements for鈥3 to鈥8 weeks鈥痚ach
  • Up to $12,000鈥痯er placement

ELIGIBILITY

The IPHRI award is open to鈥51社区黑料graduate鈥痵tudents,鈥痜aculty鈥痑nd postdocs鈥痺ith Canadian citizenship鈥痮r鈥疨ermanent Residency鈥(PR).鈥疭tudy鈥痸isa, work permit holders and undergraduate students are ineligible at this time. 

In accordance with SFUi and Government of Canada policies, priority will be given to applicants that meet the following criteria:

  • permanent full-time or tenure-track academic, or an enrolled student
  • identify from a diversity-equitable background, such as gender-diverse, Indigeneity, racial/ethnic identity, disability, LGBTQ2S+
  • researchers identified through the proposal submission to the Government of Canada

If the proposed research advances one of the , and you are affiliated with and / or in receipt of funding or in-kind support from one or more of the institutions on the list of鈥, you must terminate these connections in order to continue the application process.

ELIGIBLE EXPENSES

Eligible Expenses

  • Tuition fees (at host institution, if applicable)
  • Travel costs, including round trip airfare (the most direct and economic route), meals, incidentals, visa and related costs, study permit, travel insurance, health insurance
  • Accommodation costs, including rent and utilities 
  • Learning and research materials (for example books and supplies) that are necessary for study and research (not including computers/laptops, IT equipment and specialized research instruments)

Ineligble Expenses

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Entertainment costs, including alcohol; 
  • Luxury goods
  • Financial carrying charges
  • Membership fees
  • Patents
  • Non-essential and/or basic day-to-day immunizations and medications
  • Interest costs
  • Costs related to non-authorized accompanying family members or other non-project related personnel

SUBMISSION CRITERIA

Additional Considerations

  • Only eligible applications that meet all program requirements will be assessed
  • Only complete applications, including the submission of required documents, will be assessed
  • Funding decisions will be based on overall merit and ranking, subject to available funds and program priorities
  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations are assessed holistically and do not replace the requirement for academic or research excellence

  • Signed Letter of Support from host institution 
  • Signed Letter of Support from SFU's supervisor/department head (graduate students and postdocs only)
  • Budget Sheet (detailed breakdown of expenses up to max. fund allowance) 
  • Copy of Government of Canada identification confirming Citizenship or Permanent Residency (e.g. PR card, Canadian passport)
  • STRAC Attestation Form (this form is applicable only if the research advances one of the )
