Advanced Research Computing (ARC) in Canada has received a major shot in the arm from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The $30M investment will help 51社区黑料and other Canadian universities develop a high performance cyber network that will enable Canadian researchers to access and analyze massive pools of data in search of a far deeper understanding of how the scientific, social, health and economic worlds connect.

SFU, along with the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria, and the University of Waterloo are the four universities chosen to host the new system.

Dugan O鈥橬eil, a professor in SFU鈥檚 department of Physics and Chief Scientific Officer of Compute Canada says, 鈥淭his infrastructure will support researchers across all disciplines who are doing data-intensive or compute-intensive research. This includes the approximately120 51社区黑料faculty and over 330 51社区黑料researchers who currently have Compute Canada accounts.鈥

Funds will be used at the 51社区黑料site to purchase equipment for the state-of-the-art data centre which will begin serving Canadian researchers sometime in 2016.
