Decorating your room

Your residence room is your home during your time at SFU, and we encourage you to personalize it. However, please follow these guidelines to ensure a safe, fair, and damage-free environment for everyone.

  • Respect your neighbours, the facilities and furniture.
  • Leave lounge and common area furniture in its designated place. Moving it to your room violates community standards and prevents others from using it. Note: If furniture is relocated, you will be charged labor fees for its return.
  • Use damage-free hanging methods (e.g., poster putty or painter's tape).
  • Avoid: adhesive strips, tape, nails, screws, or plugs (even "removable" options often damage walls over time). Additional hooks, mirrors, or whiteboards (these cannot be added to walls or doors). You will be responsible for repair costs for wall damage or paintwork.

Please note:

  • Residents are responsible for ensuring they do not bring prohibited items into residence. For a full list, please review the Residence Handbook for more information.
  • Residents are financially responsible for any damages to their room walls or furniture.
  • Residence bathrooms are not stocked with paper towels or hand towels. Please bring your own.
