As we establish the school in Surrey, B.C., our growing relationships with the local community and with our partners (the Fraser Health Authority, the First Nations Health Authority, and the Divisions of Family Practice) will help us to meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve and improve access to primary care throughout the province. The School of Medicine at 51社区黑料 invites applications for a Faculty Education and Support Lead (Fraser Region, White Rock-South Surrey).  Appointment will be for a 3-year term, renewable, with an underlying faculty position. The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. This is a part-time appointment equivalent to roughly 0.2 FTE (2 half-days per week) to facilitate other commitments candidates may have.

The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the rank, category of appointment, and experience of the candidate, however, a reasonable estimate of the salary range is $55,580 - $60,580, prorated depending on other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) outside of academic work.

This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Faculty and Physician Engagement and Support (AD FPES).

Key Areas of Involvement

The Faculty Education and Support Lead is responsible for engaging with community-based preceptors, facilitating teaching resources and sessions, and contributing to collaborative initiatives that enhance medical education within the region. In fulfilling this mandate, the Faculty Education and Support Lead works in close collaboration with the AD FPES, the region鈥檚 Clinical Site Director, the region鈥檚 Division of Family Practice, the School鈥檚 UGME and PGME program leads and local preceptors. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:

Resource Development

  • Assist with the creation of resources to support preceptors in their teaching roles for both the UGME and PGME programs. 

  • Gather insights from preceptors about emerging learning needs.

Faculty Education Delivery

  • Support the creation of a network of teachers for the 51社区黑料School of Medicine within the geographic region.

  • Facilitate faculty education sessions at the community level that have been co-created with the Faculty and Physician Engagement and Support Team. 

  • Meet with UGME/PGME preceptors in the community/clinic to provide teaching support.

  • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Site Director in the geographic region.

Committee Participation

  • Participate in the central faculty engagement and support committee once it is enacted and developed. 

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) with license to practice medicine in British Columbia 

  • Must be a member of the regional Division of Family Practice (Fraser Region, White Rock-South Surrey) 

  • Direct teaching experience with medical learners

  • Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities and values.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and teams

  • Familiarity with medical education training programs. 

Additional Assets

  • Experience with the development, management, and/or monitoring of medical education curriculum and/or programs.

The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to demonstrate contributions to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. This is a part-time appointment (approximately 0.2 FTE) to facilitate other commitments candidates may have.

The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the qualifications, rank, category of appointment, and experience of the candidate. For candidates with an MD, a reasonable estimate of the salary range is $55,580 鈥 60,580. Candidates with a PhD, EdD, or equivalent expertise with relevant experience may be considered under alternate salary models.

This position reports to the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health.

This process is therefore intended to be interpreted in a broad understanding of Indigenous lived experiences and Indigenous community. Examples of support could include letters from urban-based organizations, respected community elders outside place-based family/Nations for those in the process of reclaiming place-based connections and/or similar expressions of support. Key Areas of Involvement

The Indigenous Curriculum Lead is responsible for embedding Indigenous knowledges, worldviews, and pedagogies across the MD Program curriculum. In fulfilling this mandate, the Indigenous Curriculum Lead works in close collaboration with Learning Modality (e.g., Case-Based Learning) and Theme (e.g., Anatomy) Leads, the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health, and staff in the Indigenous Perspectives team. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum Development and Integration

  • Lead the development and integration of Indigenous content throughout all years of the MD curriculum.
  • Collaborate with modality leads (e.g. Case-Based Learning, Simulation, Community-Engaged Learning) to ensure alignment with Indigenous ways of knowing and local Nations鈥 teachings.
  • Ensure cases and teaching materials reflect the experiences and health realities of Indigenous Peoples, including urban, rural, and remote contexts.

Anti-Racism and Cultural Safety Education

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum that addresses Indigenous-specific racism, trauma-informed practice, and cultural safety.
  • Implement recommendations from the In Plain Sight report and the calls to action from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission

Community Engagement and Knowledge Co-Creation

  • Co-create learning experiences with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Holders, and physicians.
  • Support student placements and land-based learning opportunities in Indigenous communities.
  • Embed protocols of relational accountability.

Curriculum and Leadership

  • Mentor faculty on integrating Indigenous pedagogies and anti-Indigenous specific racism frameworks in their teaching.
  • Work closely with the Indigenous Perspectives team to uphold Truth and Reconciliation commitments

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • M.D. (preferred), PhD, EdD or equivalent professional expertise in health professions education, Indigenous education, or related field.
  • Deep and sustained connections with Indigenous communities, particularly those in BC.
  • Experience developing or teaching curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of colonialism, Indigenous-specific racism, and Indigenous health inequities.
  • Commitment to upholding OCAP庐 principles and Indigenous data sovereignty.

Additional Assets

  • Experience teaching in medical or health professional programs.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards for undergraduate medical education and case-based or competency-based medical education.
  • Experience working within Indigenous governance or leadership structures.
  • Previous involvement in Indigenous curriculum development in higher education or health systems.

The curriculum of the School of Medicine is designed to provide students with an integrated experience that coordinates and weaves learning across classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical and community settings.  

The appointment will be for up to a 3-year term, renewable, with an underlying faculty position. The underlying faculty position will be made at the appropriate rank and category, commensurate with experience. To be eligible to hold the underlying faculty position, candidates are expected to be able to contribute to teaching, service, and scholarship related to medical education and/or medical research. This is a part-time appointment (up to 0.5 Full-Time Equivalent) to facilitate other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) that candidates may have.

The salary for the successful applicant will depend on the academic rank and experience of the candidate, however, a reasonable estimate of the salary range, based on a 0.5FTE appointment, is $138,950 - $151,450, prorated depending on other commitments (e.g. clinical practice hours) outside of academic work.  

This position reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (AD UGME).

Key Areas of Involvement

The Community Engaged Learning Lead is responsible for the coordination and delivery of Community Engaged Learning across the MD Program. In fulfilling this mandate, the Community Engaged Learning Lead works in close collaboration with Learning Modality (e.g., Case-Based Learning) and Theme (e.g., Anatomy) Leads, the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, and related operations staff. The specific areas of involvement include, but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership & Curriculum Integration

  • Design and oversee the implementation鈥痮f community-engaged learning (CEL) across all three years of the MD program, ensuring alignment with program competencies and milestones. 

  • Integrate CEL into weekly clinical presentations and thematic content, ensuring relevance to social, environmental, and cultural determinants of health.

  • Collaborate with course leads (MEDS 410, 420, 430)鈥痶o embed CEL activities into course schedules, assessments, and learning outcomes.

Community Partnership Development

  • Establish and maintain reciprocal partnerships鈥痺ith community organizations, Indigenous communities, and local leaders to co-create meaningful learning experiences. 

  • Ensure CEL activities reflect community-identified priorities, strengths, and assets, and are grounded in principles of mutual benefit and respect.

  • Facilitate orientation and training鈥痜or community partners and preceptors involved in student learning.

Learner Experience & Support

  • Collaborate with designated admin to coordinate student placements鈥痠n community-based settings, including logistics, supervision, and safety considerations. 

  • Support students in preparing for and reflecting on CEL experiences, including cultural safety, trauma-informed practice, and social accountability.

  • Monitor student progress鈥痠n CEL through workplace-based assessments, reflections, and portfolio submissions.

Assessment & Quality Improvement

  • Coordinate the program of assessment鈥痜or CEL with the assessment team, including evaluation of communication, professionalism, teamwork, and community engagement. 

  • Contribute to the Competency Review Team (CRT)鈥痓y providing input on student performance in CEL domains.

  • Collect and analyze feedback鈥痜rom students and community partners to inform continuous improvement of CEL programming.

Equity, Reconciliation & Social Accountability

  • Champion the integration of Indigenous knowledge systems鈥痑nd support the School鈥檚 commitments to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission鈥檚 Calls to Action. 

  • Promote anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and equity-oriented practices鈥痠n all aspects of CEL.

  • Advocate for the role of CEL鈥痠n shaping socially accountable physicians who understand the broader determinants of health.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

  • M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) and eligibility to hold a license to practice medicine in British Columbia is required. 

  • Experience teaching at undergraduate level in medical/clinical education.  

  • Knowledge of and respect for Indigenous cultural identities and values.

  • Experience with the development, management, and/or monitoring of medical education curriculum and/or programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and teams.

  • Familiarity with undergraduate medical education and health care environments (with a preference for primary care environments). 

Additional Assets

  • Preference will be given to family physicians and generalist specialists.

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and guidelines for undergraduate medical education

  • Master鈥檚 Degree or PhD in a field related to medical education.
