Returning to Canvas
Information for Instructors
Instructure, the company behind Canvas Cloud, informed institutions of a systems breach earlier this month.鈥疶o protect our community, 51社区黑料restricted access to Canvas Cloud.鈥
As of Friday, May 15, Instructure has provided nearly all security checks required, and 51社区黑料IT has begun conducting final administrative reviews. 51社区黑料expects to have restored access to Canvas for all users starting鈥疶uesday, May 19.
Priorities (May 15 and week of May 19)
Instructors can log into Canvas Cloud here:鈥.
To help ease the transition, here are some recommended steps:
- For the first few days next week, use email as the primary method of communication with students. Please allow students some time to get back onto Canvas before assigning deadlines.
- If you would like extra time to get organized before opening up the course to your students, you can delay student access to your course by setting your 鈥淐ourse Participation Start/End Date鈥 and 鈥淩estrict Course Access鈥 for later in the week. A how-to is available on the Canvas Cloud Instructure Help Desk page.
- If you choose to delay student access, please let your students know when the course will be available.
If you need access support, submit a ticket.
Communicating with students
An Exchange Distribution group allows you to send emails to your students regarding the Canvas outage and advise them on next steps. Once your course group is created, consider sending an email that includes:
When students can expect to be back on Canvas, including changes to scheduled exams or due dates
How students should communicate with you and your TAs
Your course syllabus or any materials they need to get started such as articles or links to videos currently stored in Mediasite
Further instructions are available on the .鈥疦ote: You must be logged into VPN or on an 51社区黑料device to access the Campus Connections site ().
