Andrea Daza

Economics, Business Minor
鈥淭he business minor has been a meaningful complement to my academic experience. It broadened my perspective, strengthened my practical skill set, and helped me connect economic theory with how organizations operate in the real world.鈥

An economics student with a business minor, Andrea is interested in the intersection of analytical thinking and organizational decision-making. Through student leadership, international exchange, and collaborative coursework, she has developed strong communication, teamwork, and strategic planning skills.

My journey

My name is Andrea Daza, and I am majoring in economics with a business minor at SFU. I chose the business minor because I鈥檝e always been interested in understanding how economic principles connect with the way organizations operate in real-world settings. Combining both fields has given me a broader perspective on markets, decision-making, and the business environment, while strengthening the skills I hope to use in my future career.

My experience at 51社区黑料Beedie

I am currently involved with the Economics Student Society, where I serve as vice-president of events. In this role, I help organize activities that engage students both socially and academically, including networking events with industry professionals, workshops, and study sessions.

I also enjoy learning languages and had the opportunity to complete an exchange in Paris at Sciences Po. During my exchange, I served as a peer leader in my French class, which allowed me to connect with classmates from different backgrounds while further developing my communication and leadership skills. Together, these experiences have helped me stay actively involved on campus and build strong organizational abilities.

Highlights

One of the most impactful aspects of my experience as a business minor has been the emphasis on group-based learning. Working on collaborative projects taught me how to navigate different working styles, communicate effectively, and contribute to shared goals鈥攕kills that closely reflect professional environments and are not always emphasized in other academic fields.

Another meaningful highlight was applying business concepts to real-world case studies. Courses that involved analyzing companies, developing strategies, and presenting recommendations helped me clearly see how theoretical frameworks translate into organizational decision-making. These experiences reinforced my interest in the intersection of economics and business and strengthened my readiness for future roles in dynamic, collaborative settings.

Where I am today

I have been able to apply many concepts from my business courses directly to my extracurricular involvement. Frameworks related to teamwork, marketing strategy, and strategic planning have helped me organize events more efficiently, coordinate groups effectively, and align initiatives with student needs. These skills have strengthened my ability to manage projects and make informed decisions outside the classroom.

Looking ahead, I see myself working in a role that integrates analytical thinking with organizational decision-making, whether in the private or public sector. While my goals may continue to evolve, I aim to contribute to projects that require strong problem-solving skills, strategic planning, and a solid understanding of both economic and business principles. The business minor has provided practical tools that complement my economics background and offer a versatile foundation for a wide range of professional environments.
