Overview

The Jack Austin Centre for Asia Pacific Business Studies at 51社区黑料 is dedicated to advancing research, outreach, and education on business issues that are critical to Canada鈥檚 engagement with the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre aims to become a centre of excellence supporting Canada鈥檚 diversification toward Asia, bridging rigorous scholarship with real-world policy and business relevance. Its research focuses on three core themes: Canada鈥揂sia business relationships; innovation and entrepreneurship; and environmental sustainability, with particular attention to critical minerals and clean energy investment. Through research, executive education, and public events, the Centre builds Asia-focused business capabilities and promotes deeper understanding of Asian markets and their implications for Canada.

Background

The Centre was named in honour of Jack Austin to recognize his exceptional contributions to Canada鈥揂sia relations. A longtime advocate for stronger ties with Asia, Austin was part of the first Canadian trade mission to China in 1971 and later served as President of the Canada China Business Council and Co-Chair of the Canada China Legislative Association. During his 32 years in the Senate representing British Columbia, he played a key role in shaping Canada鈥檚 Asia strategy and advancing dialogue between Canada and Asian partners across business, government, and civil society.
