Diploma Mills

There are seemingly 鈥渞eputable鈥 institutions from around the world, including the U.S., which award degrees to individuals after the payment of a fee. The institutions may have a name similar to another university that is recognized (University of the State of New York instead of the State University of New York) and they may even be accredited by one of the acceptable accrediting bodies (Maharishi International University). The key to identifying whether the transcript is from a 鈥渄iploma mill鈥 is that the transcripts will show credit for four years of work (not necessarily course work) completed at unrecognized post-secondary institutions and high schools from around the world, job experience, life experience, military service, etc. Students who receive degrees from these institutions may not have to complete any course work at the institution. There are a good number of these in California.

If you have any concerns, check with GPS. These degrees are NOT an acceptable basis of admission.
