nominate for entrance scholarships

Graduate Entrance Scholarships are run in goGRAD/Slate in tandem with the graduate admission cycle for the following reasons:

  • most admission applicants cannot access the award system until about a month before their start term
  • to reduce the amount of documentation
  • to assist with funding plans; units will know the winners of large awards prior to internal award deadlines

Candidates invited after April 30 will be considered in the next year鈥檚 Entrance Scholarship competition.

To access Entrance Scholarships Information in goGRAD/Slate:

  1. Use the administrative side of Slate to run the  at any time.
  2. In , programs can access an Entrance Scholarship workflow to view and nominate scholarship candidates.
    This feature is only available in May.

How to Identify, Invite and Nominate for Entrance Scholarships

Step 1: Units Invite Candidates (throughout the admission cycle)

Units identify potential candidates during the admission cycle by selecting the relevant scholarship option(s) on the Admission Recommendation Form.

Slate automatically sends the candidate an invitation to apply for Entrance Scholarships. The application includes:

  • Two short text responses describing their research or interests
  • A statement explaining their fit for the award

Step 2: Review and Select Final Nominee(s) (May)

Use Slate's Entrance Scholarship query and/or workflow to review applicants and select your unit鈥檚 final nominee(s):

  • Click on each award tab to view applicants
  • Click on a candidate鈥檚 name to open and review their application
  • To select a nominee:
    • Click the candidate鈥檚 name
    • Follow the prompts to Add to Queue and access the Review Form
    • Complete and submit the Review Form

Note: Only submit Review Forms for your final nominee(s).

Step 3: Committee Review (June)

Graduate Studies will coordinate the review of final nominees using Slate and the submitted Entrance Scholarship applications.

Graduate Program Chairs (GPCs) participate in the review of the Indigenous Entrance Award Candidates.
