August Skrudland鈥檚 master鈥檚 thesis, , discovered that the more complex and riskier an offender鈥檚 decision-making process was as they were committing a crime, the more likely it was that they could be seen, heard or discovered by a witness. These findings help strengthen criminal investigations, inform prevention efforts, and enhance public safety by better understanding offender behaviour in high-risk criminal contexts.

Skrudland鈥檚 research involved working with crime scene and investigative data and contributes to scholarship on sexual homicide, offender decision-making and evidence-based criminal justice practices.

In addition to maintaining a perfect 4.33 CGPA, Skrudland received many awards, including a SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship 鈥� Master鈥檚. He is already the lead author on one peer-reviewed journal article, lead author on two conference presentations, and has been a teaching assistant in multiple criminology courses, receiving positive feedback for teaching and mentorship.

Skrudland鈥檚 academic supervisor, Eric Beauregard, notes Skrudland鈥檚 academic strengths.

Skrudland acknowledges the support he鈥檚 received throughout his master鈥檚 degree and as he continues in his doctoral program.

I am especially grateful for his mentorship, which has enabled me to pursue research that advances both scholarship and criminal justice practice. I look forward to continuing our work throughout my PhD.鈥�

Skrudland is still an active member of the School of Criminology academic community as a PhD student, where he continues his research on offender typologies, victimology, and geographic mobility patterns in sexually motivated abductions. He is supported by a SSHRC Doctoral Scholarship (CGRS Doctoral).
