Getting your ID Card

New students

New students can get their 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card 24 hours after enrolling in courses.

Where to get your card

Visit the Pop-Up 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID Card Facility at the Lower Level of the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏBookstore & Spirit Shop on the Burnaby campus.

Students at the Vancouver or Surrey campuses can get their 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card at the Registrar and Information Services (RIS) office on their campus.

What to bring

Please bring:

  • Your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID number, and

  • One piece of valid government-issued photo ID showing your full name and date of birth in English, such as:

    • Passport

    • Canadian driver’s licence

    • Certificate of Indian Status

Important notes:

  • If you previously attended FIC, you must bring your FIC ID card to receive your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card.
  • Electronic copies and high school ID cards are not accepted.
  • Your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card can only be printed if the name on your government ID matches your legal name in your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏrecord.

Pop-Up ID Card Facility hours (Burnaby campus only)

  • Monday, January 5 – Friday, January 9: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
    (last entry at 3:00 pm)

  • Monday, January 12 – Friday, January 16: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
    (last entry at 3:00 pm)

Returning students, faculty, and staff

Please visit a Registrar and Information Services office at the campus most convenient for you to replace your 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID, if needed.

Bring one piece of valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID that shows your full name and date of birth in English.

Types of 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card

Student

51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID cards are automatically renewed whenever you enrol in courses. You must keep your card for the duration of your studies at 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏand thereafter as an alumnus.

Faculty and staff

Following the first payroll cycle, staff and faculty can get their 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏEmployee ID card at any of our three campuses Registrar and Information Services offices

FIC students

You may need a Student ID Card if you live in 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏResidence and Housing and need access to the dining hall.

FIC students are able to request their ID and replacement IDs at any of our three campuses Registrar and Information Services offices.

Visitors cards

Visiting faculty and scholars, 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏChildcare staff, visiting graduate students, and members of the 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏcommunity who are being sponsored by a department may be eligible to receive an 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card and library borrowing privileges. Visiting students who do not pay the Student Services fee will be required to pay $20 + PST before receiving their 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card.

To determine your eligibility for an 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏID card, our office requires a letter from your department that lists your start and end dates at SFU, along with a valid piece of government-issued photo ID.
