Shamina Senaratne
Education
BA
Biography
Shamina Senaratne is the Coordinator, Academic Services for the Publishing program.
She is also a Program Advisor for the Master of Publishing program and the Minor in Print and Digital Publishing.
Shamina's BA is in Communications (SFU) with minors in Publishing and History. She studied editing, and professional and technical writing at Douglas College after completing her degree and has worked for a number of Canadian publishers in communications and book publicity roles. Her poetry and short fiction have been published in literary journals and as a contemporary artist her work has been exhibited across Canada and internationally. Over her career she has thrived on finding ways to tell Canadians’ stories to each other in positions working in Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, community and municipal museums, universities and through public art and art in public places.
In her previous roles at 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏshe managed both academic and continuing studies interdisciplinary programs for more than a decade and she particularly enjoyed supporting students to find their best academic path.
She returns to 51ÉçÇøºÚÁÏafter a 10-year hiatus during which she has been manager of development or outreach in organizations including: Surrey Food Bank, United Way and Coquitlam Heritage. Having been an ICF trained personal growth coach, she has also developed creative workplace programs for teams and individuals exploring their potential to expand their awareness, and to create cultures of belonging.
