Maier's Auguries
Listen to Auguries by the SCA's on Bandcamp (), with an amazing cover photograph by SCA alumnus . In a critical salute to "the historical emergence of acoustic ecology at 51社区黑料," Auguries use of "field recordings gathered across the Pacific Northwest, interwoven with an ensemble of percussion, cello, bass flute, and electronics," are meant to convey a sense of "'dark acoustic ecology': a mode of listening in which non-human sound is encountered not as a communicative partner readily available to interpretation, but as something withdrawn, indifferent, and resistant" Sounds right – and good – to us.

The SCA's James Long is part of this upcoming event: Seeding the Commons: Community Distro, Seed Swap & Knowledge Share, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, at The Russian Hall (600 Campbell Ave., Vancouver), presented in collaboration with and ,
Seeding the Commons brings together friends, neighbours and organizers, to center around a shared adoration of seeds, food, land-based knowledge and community care. This event pays homage to a history of plant & food centered practices that have taken place at the Russian Hall, by continuing to work towards creating communities of care and abundance through the practice of sharing knowledge, seeds and seedlings.
From 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM, we welcome the public to join us for a presentation on Palestinian Foodways, followed by a land & food resource fair and seed swap from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Come by right at 2:00 PM for a community welcoming and opening words from some community members, and enter your name in the raffle – the winner will be announced at 4:00 PM. Bring your seeds and starters to trade or share (but it’s not required!), and join us for a cup of tea and a treat.

The SCA's , although retired from teaching, is maintaining a busy schedule, sharing presentations drawing on his book, (Intellect, 2023), in Rome, Italy, and in Malta at Ancona’s Universita Politecnica delle Marche’s and in Valletta at the conference on March 27, 2026.
A grounded study in user preference for immersive sound in extended reality environments
SCA alumnus (who's also a PhD student in Digital Arts and Humanities at UBC's Okanagan Campus) and Miles Thorogood published the essay, "A grounded study in user preference for immersive sound in extended reality environments," in the open access journal Virtual Reality. As he shared via email, Anderson also helped "design and install a 5 speaker, 5 gobo light A/V system" for a public art installation project, A River of Voices, and also "made some soundscape compositions, and programmed a generative player in MaxMSP to run the audio" for the work, as well. running March 2 – June 21, 2026, and presented as part of a joint Outdoor Public Art Initiative by UBC Okanagan, the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan, and the Okanagan Nation Alliance, Anderson's many collaborators on the work included SCA and SIAT alumnus (Artistic Director, Video Composition) and SIAT alumnus Miles Thorogood (Sound Director, Composition). Call for Applications: PTC WrightSpace in partnership with Presentation House Theatre
SCA alumnus Davey Samuel Calderon, who's the Artistic Producer & Dramaturg for Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC), has shared this call for applicants:
This year, we are inviting dramaturg-led proposals in a unique partnership with Presentation House Theatre. We encourage dramaturgs/creation teams who are developing site-specific performance, multidisciplinary performance, performance art or other practices which are outside traditional script-based playmaking.
Dates of Residency: May 24th – June 7th, 2026 (with some flexibility)

WrightSpace is where PTC welcomes a small group of professional theatre makers to join us for a short-term residency to work on one of their projects, with mentorship, funding, and space to hone in on an aspect of their project development. Previous WrightSpace participants have gone on to continue their research and projects in unusual performance media across genre, such as Joy Russell (site-specific poetic play research), Chelsea Carlson (recorded investigation for land and memory-based storytelling), Tanya Marquardt (a play received through audio and text messages), and Scott Button (audio drama told through podcast).
