ASCENSION 2026 APPLICATION
Attention All SCA undergrad artists!
Ascension 2026 is opening up applications to SCA students of any discipline interested in creating interdisciplinary live works that primarily explore the areas of movement, sound, and production design/visual elements. The idea being that all artists involved have the chance to exercise a creative vision that is devised collaboratively.
The application process begins from now until July 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
Please read over these details below before you apply!
How to Apply
- Applicants are encouraged to apply as a group of 鈥榗o-leads' (max 4 persons) with a collaborative concept and pitch.
- Each Ascension project must have collaborators that cover the areas of movement/choreography, sound/composition, and production design (ie. lighting, video design, props & materials).
- You can only propose one piece as a co-lead. You will still be permitted to support one other piece, but not as a co-lead.
- Artists who do not have a complete group of collaborators are still encouraged to apply early with their concept/ideas and/or desired area of contribution, with the expectation that they will find collaborators, or agree to be grouped by the ascension committee with other artists who apply.
- Artists interested in participating through supportive collaborative roles or technical roles are also encouraged to apply (just select the role that suits your interest when you open the application form).
- Applications will prioritize 3rd & 4th year applicants, and applicants with a more complete group of co-leads.
- Project co-leads will be responsible for casting the performers in their piece. As co-leads, you are responsible for working with 2 other co-leads to create a fulfilling concept that embraces interdisciplinary exploration!
Selection Process and Considerations
- Applicants will be chosen through anonymous voting by committee members/representatives from the dance, music & sound, and production & design areas, as well as a faculty member from each area.
- The committee will consider both the content of the proposed piece and the potential for a successful interdisciplinary collaboration between the co-leads during the selection process.
The Ascension Committee is committed to providing a more well-rounded, collaborative process for all artists; therefore, these considerations will be implemented to the best of our abilities.
- Tech time for programming lights and video (by sign up blocks)
- Tech time for mixing sound in venue prior to final export & levels (by sign up blocks)
- Blended, open, and regular communication across programs throughout the process.
- A consolidated digital space for referencing information and updates.
We will keep this up to date with events, info, and important links for your reference!
